As harvest wraps up, basis can improve. Utterback Marketing president Bob Utterback tells farmers to keep an eye on local basis levels and be prepared to take advantage of basis improvements. “We’re in that time period where the market is squeezed. Basis in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and the Midwest is tightened up. That is a positive movement, but we have not seen a lot of product movement.” While Utterback expects basis to improve, the futures market will anticipate cash-flow grain coming to town at the end of the year or after the new year.
