If farmers have resistant weeds or are trying to avoid the development of resistant weeds, multiple sites of action and residual activity are a must. According to FMC technical service manager Nick Hustedde, the focus is on pigweeds like waterhemp, Palmer amaranth and giant ragweed. “As we think about the new trait systems coming on line, especially with soybeans, we’ve got to think about how we can protect those traits and keep them effective for a longer period of time. We need all of the tools possible as we battle the multiple resistant pigweeds.” FMC has a new premix called Authority for use at planting. Hustedde says that should be followed by an overlapping residual treatment.
