Brazilian ag consultant Kory Melby says there is an air of optimism and relief following the election of Jair Bolsonaro as Brazil’s new president. “It’s unknown what this means longer-term, likely some stability.” While Bolsonaro calls China a predator, Melby thinks it will be business as usual for China’s investment in Brazil to build infrastructure to move agricultural products. “From what I’m hearing, Bolsonaro is very pro-China investment for infrastructure, but anti-China for the buying up of Brazilian farmland.”
