The one bright spot in agriculture is cow-calf production, according to NDSU Extension Livestock Marketing Economist Tim Petry. “We’ve got a lot to be thankful for in the cattle business. Almost 700,000 more calves to sell and all kinds of trade issues going on. Yet, calf prices are the same as last year.” At the auction barn, Petry says there is still a wide range of prices for the same weight and grade of calves due to the information provided and management of those calves.
