Pro-oil and natural gas groups aren’t happy E15 could be offered year-round. Frank Macchiarola, Vice President of Downstream and Industry Operations for the American Petroleum Institute, says the Trump administration needs to take a step back from the rule-making process. “We believe the administration doesn’t have the authority to make this decision. It’s pretty clear from the Clean Air Act, Congress would be required to make this change to essentially issue a waiver for more E15 in the fuel mix.” Macchiarola says the better policy is to let the free market determine what fuels to use. API plans to further address the rule once the EPA releases more details and the rule is available for comment.
