South Dakota farmers are already receiving first round payments from USDA’s Market Facilitation Program. Lake Preston, South Dakota hog farmer Shane Odegaard applied for funding two weeks ago and just received his payment. The payment received is half of his August 1 inventory multiplied by $8. Hog farmers can select their inventory date from July 15 through August 15. He says every little bit helps. Odegaard also grows corn and soybeans. “Basically, it’s one application for all commodities that qualified on the list. We’ll just have to go back again after harvest now and fill in the other lines for corn and soybeans.” There are a few sign-up options for farmers via the Farm Service Agency.
