The fall cattle run at Hub City Livestock in Aberdeen, South Dakota started Wednesday. Co-owner Steve Hellwig says the sale was just shy of 5,000 head of cattle. “We’re selling a lot of yearlings at the moment. The market is higher on them, and there’s a lot of demand and a lot of buyers for the yearlings,” says Helwig. “We’re just getting started on this year’s calves. We had black steer calves weighing 600 pounds bringing $174-to-$178 per hundredweight. That’s very similar to last year’s market, which kind of surprises some people.” Next Wednesday, there is a big customer appreciation sale at Hub City Livestock.
