Hope remains for a completed farm bill by the end of 2018. National Council of Farmer Cooperatives President/CEO Chuck Conner explains there is a new level of angst with the expiration of the bill. “If we can get this wrapped up in the next couple of months before the end of the calendar year, that’s a good finish for this bill and I’m hopeful that can be the case.” Conner says a farm bill deadline does matter. “Right now, we are in a season where we face so many uncertainties. Uncertainties are driving this market. Whether it’s trade, tax, or weather, there’s a there’s just a litany of those sorts of things. We ought to be looking to minimize any uncertainty out there that’s sort of within our control. We don’t need the uncertainty of an expired farm bill.”
