U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland will be in New York today and tomorrow for the United Nations General Assembly. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said formal trade negotiations are not planned, but informal discussions are likely. In the ongoing NAFTA negotiations, the U.S. and Canada are looking for consensus on the best way to resolve trade disputes. The U.S. also wants Canada to provide more market access for U.S. dairy products.
