Looking into the fall and winter months, AgResource Company President Dan Basse is optimistic about the cash cattle market. “Kills should be coming down as we look at September and head into the third or fourth week of October. That should rally the market back to $116-to-$120,” says Basse. “We think beef supplies rise rather smartly heading into December and January. A seasonal rally into February or March, may make it up to $119-to-$21 and then sliding into June.” Basse adds those rallies could provide hedging opportunities for 2019 April and June cattle. “Due to volatility, if you can figure out what your profitability is and where your margins are, there will be opportunities to make money.”
