During the opening session of the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association Convention, ranchers heard about positioning for success in an economic reset. Virginia Tech agricultural economist Dr. David Kohl says “beef producers are weathering tough times better than anyone else.” While recent U.S. Cattle on Feed numbers have been hard to pinpoint, Kohl adds producers need to keep an eye on what’s occurring in the Southern Hemisphere. “Argentina is in a position to expand their herd by four times. They could become a major competitor because the Argentine leader no longer puts tariffs on cattle.” While cattle prices remain steady, Kohl forewarns producers about the storm clouds on the horizon. “The beef industry better start lining up with some of the consumers trends that are about to occur.” Hear more from Kohl in this interview.
