Red River Valley potato growers are still concerned about the trucking challenges. Black Gold Farms CEO Eric Halverson says the ability to move potatoes out of the region is important, but there is no silver bullet. “There’s discussions about who can drive trucks, lowering the age. We need to keep beating that drum, but I’m not figuring on that’s going to help me tomorrow. That’s down the road. You know, there’s stuff that we’re gonna have to look in the mirror and say how do we fix this ourselves?” Potatoes and agricultural products that are harder to ship via rail will be impacted most says Halverson.
