With a one month-and-a-half to go before the current farm bill expires, National Potato Council Vice-President of Public Policy Kam Quarles says it is a positive sign that lawmakers are moving forward with the conference process. “The question is going to be whether or not they can they can come to a final agreement and have the necessary votes to pass that final agreement across the House and Senate floor.” Quarles says the Senate is offering a strong research title and trade title. “The House has some regulatory reform provisions that folks like. The trick is going to be marrying those altogether and then get the votes to get them to the president’s desk.”
