The American Sugar Growers Association Vice-President and Hallock, Minnesota farmer Dan Younggren is attending the International Sweetener Symposium this week. On Monday, attendees got an update on upcoming elections from the Cook Political Report’s David Wasserman. “The ones we were kind of looking at is of course the Senate race with Heitkamp and Cramer. As Wasserman sees it right now, he thinks Congressman Cramer has a slight edge over Senator Heitkamp. You talk around the room and everybody else is thinking opposite. Heidi has done everything she’s supposed to do and that she has the edge. It’ll be interesting to see what comes out in November when the elections actually happen.” Trade and the farm bill are both priorities at the symposium. Farmers want the sugar program to stay together, but are uncertain if lawmakers can get a bill completed on time.
