A new immigration bill has been introduced in the House, which Republicans say will benefit agriculture. The Agriculture and Legal Workforce Act would require farmers, as well as employers, to use the E-Verify Program to make sure workers are in the United States legally. The new bill includes some provisions also included in a broader GOP immigration bill recently voted down in the House. Language in the new bill would require workers to have health insurance. A press release from the House Judiciary Committee says the H-2C program would be available to temporary and year-round agricultural employers.
