A Chinese Commerce Ministry official described the Trump Administration’s plan for $200 billion in additional tariffs as “totally unacceptable.” With the escalation of the trade war, China imports less than that amount from the United States, forcing Beijing to consider other ways to retaliate. China is filing a complaint against the U.S. action to the World Trade Organization. Other options for retaliation have not been announced. On Capitol Hill, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch said the White House strategy is “reckless.”
