Lawmakers will focus on the farm bill as session resumes this week. North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp says the biggest difference between the two bills is the nutrition title and confirms this will be a hang up in conference. “I think that given the big vote out of the Senate, I think we could make a really positive case for moving this forward. We did a number of reforms that are state-based on SNAP. We hope the House will basically agree to the changes we’ve made.” Heitkamp also wants the commodity title of the farm bill to help mitigate the effects of a trade war on farmers and ranchers. “We’re talking about maybe doing some adjustment to the Price Loss Coverage program, running some kind of additional decreasing price program out of the commodities title.”
