A conference committee is the next step for lawmakers to get a farm bill completed by October 1. In conference, the House and Senate will merge the two bills into one. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke confirms conservation program updates need to be made in farm bill conference. “Rural development is huge and of course our conservation measures have made great strides in these areas. Money is always an issue. If we don’t continue to work on ways to make each seed better, not just the crop, we aren’t going to be what we consider sustainable in agriculture.”
