House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway does not anticipate any farm bill amendments when the legislation returns to the House floor. American Farm Bureau Federation Vice-President Scott VanderWal says Conaway is optimistic lawmakers can get “all the mosquitoes shoved into the wheelbarrow.” On June 22, the farm bill is expected to come up for a vote in the House. The Senate is also beginning to act on its farm bill. “Conaway didn’t really say when we could be in conference committee or anything, but sure hopes they can get that done before the August recess. Otherwise, that’s really close to the mid-term elections and people are kind of scared of their shadows at that time. They don’t like to do anything that’s real political at that point.” VanderWal farms at Volga, South Dakota.
