The farm bill is on the agenda for Senate lawmakers this week. North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp says there’s a different path for the farm bill in the Senate. “I don’t see that we’re going to get sidetracked by an issue that’s not ag-related. So we’re back to debating the important issues like what we’re going to do with crop insurance, what we’re going to do with Title 1 conservation and then, taking a look at food security,” says Heitkamp. “I think Chairman Roberts understands and appreciates that he needs 60 votes. It is going to be tough to get 60 votes for anything like what the House has done, but there is always an opportunity to have a dialogue about reform.”
