Weed control in the driest areas of American Crystal Sugar Company’s growing districts are a concern. General Agronomist Tyler Grove says the Drayton and Moorhead districts were dry enough to not activate the pre-emerge herbicides in a timely manner. “You can have your best laid plans and it looks good until the moisture isn’t there. We’ve been struggling on getting good weed control with the soil applied herbicides.” Weed control options are limited. “Post options include a little bit of Stinger in a couple of cases and then, we start getting pretty thin on post-herbicide rescue treatments.”
