The average net income for farms participating in the North Dakota Farm Business Management Association was $88,000 last year. That compares to nearly $127,000 in 2016. NDSU Extension farm management specialist Andrew Swenson says the 30 percent decline in farm income was expected with 2016 profits helped by big yields and large government payments. In 2017, the average farm in this program borrowed nearly $547,000.
