On Tuesday, 44 House members sent a letter to Taiwan’s Ambassador to the U.S. asking for the removal of import restrictions on U.S. agricultural products, including pork. National Pork Producers President Jim Heimerl says “it’s time for Thailand to end its unwarranted ban on U.S. pork.” The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative agreed with the NPPC request to review Thailand’s eligibility for the U.S. Generalized System of Preferences program. NPPC is also asking the Trump Administration to reduce or eliminate the benefits Thailand receives under the program, which gives duty-free access to certain goods entering the United States.
