April snow showers bring May planting delays. The Lake Preston, South Dakota area is still damp. Paul Casper is usually done with planting by now and he just got in the field last Wednesday. Casper says it’s been a really weird spring. “We got corn planted last Wednesday. Then, it rained Wednesday night. We got corn planted Saturday morning. It rained Saturday night. We want to get the corn in Thursday before Friday’s rain.” Casper will be changing some acres.“We’re probably going to back off 200 to 300 acres, because we can’t get to it. Hopefully, it dries up. If not, we’re likely to have some prevent plant, which I’m not happy about. We’re not the only ones like that in the area.”
