Agricultural Retailers Association Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Counsel Richard Gupton is hoping there will be consensus with lawmakers as the farm bill moves forward. “In the Senate, it’s my understanding they’re trying to work in a bipartisan way. They could be slightly behind the House,” says Gupton. “We’re hopeful the Senate can get some time after their short-term recess to get a bill passed.” Gupton adds association wants to see strong funding continue for the conservation programs. Also, regulatory programs are top of mind. “We need regulatory relief on pesticide permits. There’s a lot of uncertainty dealing with the litigation on the Waters of the United States connected to the permits. There are also reforms dealing with pesticide applications.”
