Underwood, Minnesota farmer Lance Peterson started fieldwork last Friday and plans to start planting this week. Peterson says there are lots of irrigated potatoes raised in the area and potato growers are planting. Corn will be the first thing planted on the Peterson Farm. “We’ll get the corn knocked out and then turn right around with beans. There’s certainly been some discussion of farmers backing off or adjusting corn maturity a little bit,” says Peterson. “If corn can hit the ground in the next week or so, it dials back some concern. However, we don’t want to let this drag on too long with the extended maturities.”
