The Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association and Minnesota Beef Council are helping producers become better beef advocates through their ‘Top of the Class’ program. Barnesville, Minnesota cattleman Jake Thompson is taking part in the program. “So far, we’ve done media training and focusing on advocacy through social media. Showing our day-to-day activities helps show consumers how beef goes from pasture-to-plate.” Thompson says consumers are still focused on topics such as antibiotic use in cattle. “When we (humans) get sick, we’re going to get medicine to feel better. We do the same thing in the cattle industry. However, we follow FDA restrictions and withdrawal periods on those antibiotic labels.”
