More than one year after pulling out of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement, President Trump is asking his top economic advisers to study the possibility of re-joining the trade pact. President Trump deputized U.S. Trade Ambassador Robert Lighthizer and National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow to study the possibility of re-entering the TPP if terms were favorable. A trade specialist at the Peterson Institute for International Economics says one can explain this initiative entirely in the context of U.S.-China relations. President Trump says the U.S. would only join TPP if the deal were substantially better than the deal offered to President Obama.
