A new Food for Peace shipment is on its way to help feed more than one million people in East Africa. The shipment marks the second major Food for Peace vessel sent under USDA’s administration of the program this summer. Wheat groups say the effort not only provides life-saving food assistance overseas, but also creates demand for U.S.-grown commodities and supports American farmers, rural communities and the U.S. maritime industry. Farm organizations are urging Congress to make USDA’s leadership of the Food for Peace program permanent in the next farm bill.
