The White House decision to import beef from Argentina has the attention of the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association. “Our stance has been pretty consistent here that we want to make sure that if there are imports, that it’s a free and fair trade for our homegrown producers,” said USCA President Justin Tupper. “When we look at how some of that meat is handled and what they do with it, make sure that the same scrutiny is put on them that is put on us.” Tupper also questions whether the agreement will lower consumer beef prices. Transparency is also a must. “If they want to bring in this beef from other countries that have different protocols, different safety standards, different methods of growing than we do, and they want to put it up against ours, the safest and best on the planet, let the consumer decide.”
