North Dakota Congressman Kevin Cramer tells RRFN anything in the farm bill that doesn’t have a base could be effected, but the vast majority of the farm bill doesn’t change until January 1. “There is some room to continue the negotiation without an extension.” Cramer says the commodity title is a target of Senate Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow in discussions. “Cutting the commodity title to pay for rooftop vegetable gardens and create an incentive for doctors to prescribe fruits and vegetables, what Stabenow is pushing for, doesn’t make any sense in a time where farm income is down more than 50 percent.”
