After trending lower for ten consecutive years, more Americans faced food insecurity issues in 2022. According to a new USDA report, nearly 13 percent of all households struggled to get enough food last year, up more than ten percent from 2021. In a statement, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said that is a “stark reminder of the consequences of shrinking a proven safety net.”
