The current farm bill expires September 30th, but it is unlikely a new farm program will be in place by that time. “The goal is now to get it done by the 1st of the year, but that is still a massive lift,” said Gary Wertish, president, Minnesota Farmers Union. “We really want the farm bill done right rather than just getting it done.” Wertish cites consolidation as having a significant impact on agriculture and it should be addressed in the new farm bill.
