At the Midwest Agriculture Summit in West Fargo, Kemmsies Group Managing Partner Dr. Walter Kemmsies said unemployment is a growing issue nationally and it has a great impact on agriculture. “The working age population growth has slowed. The U.S. Census says we’re only going to get about 300,000 workers joining the workforce for the next ten years.” For perspective, Kemmsies said there were 339,000 people hired last month. The trend of people moving from rural to urban areas is continuing. That presents a problem for agriculture. “If we don’t have the technology in place to increase the output, we’re going to have additional national security problems.”
