For farm succession planning, fairness may need a new definition. Manitoba-based farm family coach Elaine Froese sees the fairness issue as a hurdle in farm transitions. “Where is it written that you as a parent and as a farmer are to keep all of your children economically equal. There are certain families that have a sticking point because in their culture if you have four children you treat them all exactly the same economically. In farm transitions, that is not a formula that works anymore.” Froese will be featured in the Red River Farm Network building at Big Iron Thursday morning at 10:30 for a forum on farm succession planning. In addition, Froese has a new e-book and audio book available on this topic.
