A December snowstorm may get the credit for a more timely start to this year’s planting season. According to North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network Director Daryl Ritchison, there isn’t much frost in the ground. The December storm was challenging, but the early layer of insulation could deliver a net benefit this spring. “Instead of using a lot of energy this spring to get rid of all that frost in the soil, that energy will be used to warm up the soil and will warm up the atmosphere a little bit.”
