USDA is seeking public comment on a proposal to amend disease tracability regulations and require electronic identification for cattle and bison moving interstate. “We knew it was coming and a lot of it was what they proposed before,” said Justin Tupper, president, U.S. Cattlemen’s Association. “While we believe in disease traceability, we think there are sounder ways to get there.” Tupper is opposed to the added cost of electronic identification at a time when feed and other inputs are already high.
