Beef cow slaughter has been on the upward trend for nearly four years. NDSU Extension Livestock Specialist Tim Petry says you can expect cow liquidation to continue. across the U.S. “Fifty-five percent of our beef cow herd is an area of drought. particularly in the Southern Plains where there’s an early movement of calves and the forced liquidation of cows.” The U.S. hasn’t seen cow herd numbers this low since 2014. “That’s certainly going to be supportive of prices in the future.”
