It can be difficult to pull the marketing trigger with the volatility seen in the grain markets. Advance Trading Commodity Research Analyst Brian Basting says farmers need to protect their margins. “In the history of corn and bean prices, we’ve never seen prices this high at harvest, with the exception of 2012 and that was the drought year when we didn’t have the bushels to sell in most areas,” Basting told RRFN. “This year we are gonna have something to sell in most areas and exceptional yields to sell in many areas so protectthe margin because with ’23 input prices, cash rents, everything is gonna catch up quickly.”
