Before Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack’s address at Commodity Classic on Friday, he joined the other G7 agriculture ministers virtually to discuss Ukraine. “We had a chance to hear from the Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Leshchenko. He was obviously in a bunker, surrounded by sand bags and I thought to myself what incredible courage it takes for him to ask us for support.” Vilsack says Ukraine’s farmers want to plant this spring and summer, but more fuel is needed. “Fuel is now being used in military applications would have been used in farming applications. Leshchenko requested, primarily from European countries, additional fuel supplies and he put us on notice.”
