Sales volume at the Bagley Livestock Auction Market has been larger than normal since last summer. “The prices have benefited open heifer calves because people expect strong demand for bred replacement heifers a year from now,” said Billy Bushelle, manager. ” The bred cows are still at bargain prices because the people who sold their cows when they were short of pasture are also short of hay, so no one is buying cows yet.” The feeder cattle run began much earlier than normal last fall and Bushelle is advising buyers to purchase cattle now before “we run out of calves.”
