There’s an increasing chance of feedlot cattle to be affected by untreatable and fatal congestive heart failure according to a DTN report. The condition, known as feedlot heart disease (FHD) may be tied to the selection of cattle for increased production levels such as growth and marbling. In the past few years, as those production levels have increased, so has FHD. Researchers are hoping to find genetics that may be underpinning the disease, and to catch it early enough to avoid treatment with antibiotics.
