There’s been a delay in Dairy Margin Coverage payments for local dairy farmers. One southern Minnesota dairy farmer said on Thursday they had a check due the first of September, but the USDA had not made the settlement. The farmer also said two other producers did not get their settlement for July. A USDA spokesperson confirmed on Monday the USDA had exhausted funding under the program. USDA said milk and feed prices continue to be volatile and are difficult to predict. USDA apologized for the delay and said payments resumed on Friday. Producers eligible for payments will receive them. Minnesota Milk Producers Federation Executive Director Lucas Sjostrom said these are some of the biggest DMC payments dairy farmers have received. In Minnesota, 85 percent of dairy farmers have signed up for the DMC program.
