Uncertainty over the size of the eastern Corn Belt crop being able to offset the drought damage in the west is causing choppy market conditions. Northern Crops Marketing and Investments President Brad Paulson is watching that debate closely. “A lot of the grain trade thinks the corn and soybeans aren’t good enough in the eastern Corn Belt to make up for the stuff in the western Corn Belt. I don’t agree with that thought, because there will be disasters in the Dakotas and Minnesota. The top end may be off in Iowa.” Canada is also struggling with drought. “Canada continues to see hot, dry weather. I talked with a friend of mine in Alberta. Even with the irrigated stuff, the crop is going backwards.”
