Starting Tuesday July 20, livestock and poultry producers who had to euthanize animals during the COVID pandemic will be able to apply for reimbursement. The USDA’s new Pandemic Livestock Indemnity Program will offer payments based on 80 percent of the fair market value of the livestock and poultry and for the depopulation and disposal of the animal. Pork producers are expected to be the primary recipients of the assistance. To be eligible, livestock must have been euthanized from March 1, 2020 through December 26, 22020 due to insufficient processing access as a result of the pandemic.
