Spring wheat conditions are tough in the Northern Plains. USDA acknowledged that in the weekly crop condition and July WASDE reports. The Money Farm market analyst Luke Swenson thinks the majority of spring wheat harvest will be complete in the Red River Valley to central North Dakota by August 1. “Abandonment is going to be an issue. There’s a lot of stuff that won’t even make hay. Insurance companies are zeroing out the crop. When we start seeing some of the early harvest coming in, the grain market is going to pick up earlier than expected.” Swenson is surprised the USDA didn’t change much in their forecast of Canada’s spring wheat crop in Monday’s WASDE report. “USDA increased wheat imports, that will come from Canada. How is Canada’s crop not going to change when North Dakota’s crop is getting massacred?”
