The total inventory was down two percent from one year ago. The breeding herd supply and the market hog inventory were both down two percent. Livestock Marketing Information Center economist Tyler Cozzens was surprised by the farrowing intentions. They were lower than expected. “It may point to these producers taking a little bit more of a measured approach going forward. I think it is one of those signals that, at least, myself as an analyst was looking for.” The total hog inventory is up three percent in Minnesota. Iowa’s hog supply is unchanged from one year ago and the total for North Carolina was down 11 percent.
