U.S. milk production edged higher in the month of May, totaling just under 18 billion pounds. That’s up nearly one percent from a year ago. In Minnesota, milk production was unchanged. Cow numbers were unchanged from April, but down 5,000 head from last year. South Dakota’s cow herd increased 4,000 head over the past year and milk production rose four percent.
