Farm policy was part of Tuesday’s virtual Small Grains Update Meeting. Minnesota Soybean Growers Association Executive Director Joe Smentek outlined a few of the association’s policy priorities. “The Minnesota Agriculture Department recently added two neonicotinoids for surface waters and along with that, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has done a seed spill and deer spleen study. We’ll see what happens administratively with that.” Attendees also heard from Minnesota Corn Growers Association’s Senior Public Policy Director Amanda Bilek. Bilek said the state budget will take lots of work. There is a projected deficit for the biennium. “This was an improvement from an earlier forecast, but it’s also uncertain what the longer term outlook will be.” Other topics at the meeting focused on wheat production management and making wheat variety selections.
