The new president of the American Soybean Association is Kevin Scott. Scott and his family farm in the southeast part of South Dakota, near Valley Springs. Scott says it’s been an interesting year for the U.S. soybean industry. “We had tariffs to start. Then, COVID started in March. It really took a hit on the markets. African Swine Fever continued to slow demand and it didn’t seem like it was going to be a very good year for soybeans profitability wise. It has turned a corner at the end of the year and we’re pretty thrilled about it.” Trade is one of the top priorities for the ASA going into 2021. The association is also ready to work with a new administration on climate change. “There’s lots of talk about carbon sequestration; we want to be part of the solution.”
